Kinds of Clay Used

There are many kinds of clay, natural and syn­thetic, used for different purposes, in ceramic work.

Four varieties are recommended. Each is prepared for a special type of construction, but either the gray or terra cotta pottery clay can be used for all of the projects.

Any of the clays de-scribed here may be purchased from the sources named, but the beginner should in­vestigate his own local sources.

Clays vary ac­cording to geographical location and one may find an especially fine clay in his own community.
